Regarding your ambitions. Let's talk role modelling.
I'm now posting regularly on LinkedIn. Be sure to follow me there - give me some ♥️ and comments.
The last couple of memos have been about trying different things to improve performance.
So, I want to share something I’ve found useful for my own growth - role modelling.
Think: Regarding your ambition, who is a high-achiever you'd like to emulate?
Seek out opportunities to work with that person. Learn all you can. Craft a better version of yourself.
How?
Notice how they identify.
Try on their beliefs.
Reverse engineer their process.
Practice their skills.
Hang out in their spaces.
Here are some tips for doing that:
Notice how they identify themselves and their approach to work
You're looking for insights into the mindset and self-image that contributes to their success. So, pay attention to the language they use when talking about their work and contributions. Adopt a similar mindset.
Try on their beliefs
Next figure out their core beliefs. What drives their actions and decisions? It may feel odd at first but try on these beliefs for size. See how your performance changes.
Reverse engineer their process
They say "success leaves clues". Break down your high-achievers work processes ( interaction habits, time management, problem-solving, etc) into actionable steps you can take.
Practice their skills
Within these strategies, you'll also find key skills you'll need to practice and improve in these areas. Deliberately practice at least one of these each day.
Hang out in their spaces
Finally, join environments where your role model spends time. Hang out with people at the top of their game, real achievers ... not in some self-congratulatory, wannabe network.
And, in doing all of this remember to craft a personalised approach that works best for you. Align what you discover with your unique strengths, values, and goals.
